In 1902, Guglielmo Tramontano, the owner of the Grand Hotel in Sorrento, wanted to convince Zanardelli, an Italian congressman who spent a night at his hotel, to open a post office in the village. In hopes of being even more persuasive, he asked the brothers Gian Battista and Ernesto De Curtis to write in a few hours a song dedicated to the illustrious guest. The next day, when the politician was ready to leave Sorrento, he was greeted by an improvised performance of ''Torna a Sorrento'' (Return to Sorrento). After a few years, revised and edited, the song was presented at the festival of Piedigrotta and became an international hit. Giancarlo Gazzani has adapted the song for wind band in this fascinating Latin-jazz arrangement. - Reviews
