Andrea Moncalvo

Born in Arquata Scrivia (Alessandria) on May 2, 1972, Andrea Moncalvo received his first musical education at the local wind band, where he studied clarinet with Pietro Moroni. Eventually, he became a member of that ensemble. He continued to study as a self-taught musician focusing on harmony and band instrumentation, and as a private student of Gian Marco Bosio, professor at the Conservatory of Music in Genua. In 1993, he was appointed conductor of the Wind Band of Arquata, a position that he left in December 2014 to devote himself entirely to composition, his great passion. He received two important awards in 2011:

• First prize in the B category of the Composition Contest “Mugnano Garibaldina,” organized by the Philharmonic Society of Mugnano (Perugia) to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Union of Italy;

• First prize at the 1st National Contest for Marches “Città di Allumiere” (Rome) with the composition “La Campionessa.”
