THE BLUE DANUBE

THE BLUE DANUBE

It was written on the occasion of the celebrations for the Carnival of 1867, with the intention of reviving the spirits of the population after the serious military defeat of Austria by the Prussian forces, which took place in July 1866. It is universally recognized as the waltz most famous written by the composer.
