The piece, structured in the classic A - B - A form, takes its name from the title of the most well-known novel by the Villacidrese writer Giuseppe Dessì (1909 - 1977), who in 1972 won the Strega Prize, singing about this land and its customs with accents of melodious nostalgia.

This composition was commissioned by the “Santa Cecilia” Wind Band of Villacidro on the occasion of the centenary of its foundation (1923-2023).
The piece, structured in the classic ternary form A - B - A, takes its name from the title of the best-known novel by Giuseppe Dessì (1909 - 1977) a writer from Villacidro who won the 1972 Premio Strega for this work that describes this land and its customs with accents of melodic nostalgia.
Villacidro is the most populous center of the former province of Medio Campidano of which, together with Sanluri, it was the main city from 2006 to 2017. It rises 45 kilometers northwest of Cagliari, where the flatness of the plain of Campidano meets with the last slopes of the Linas mountain system.
Villacidro is a modern town whose economy, however, is still firmly planted in its mountains and hills that, over the years, have made it famous for its cherries, its citrus fruits, its olive oil, and for the wholesomeness of its air.
Yet the greatest wealth, which Villacidro jealously guards, consists of its environmental beauties, from the asphodelus meadows of its barren lands, to the phillyreas, the mastic and the arbutus trees of its hills, the holm oak woods of its mountains. The visitor who enters the deep valleys of Coxinas, Narti, Villascema, and Montimannu experiences breathtaking naturalistic adventures, among Dolomite landscapes, perennial waters, and vast sections of pristine forests.
